Each summer in Bristol Bay, sockeye salmon return in huge numbers to spawn in the exact wild and pristine rivers and creeks where they hatched. After spawning they die and thus complete a beautiful cycle of life that has been going on for many thousands of years. I participate in what is known as a drift gillnet fishery. For roughly a month, the fleet of small boats drift up and down the shifting sandbars and tidal flats catching salmon as they swim from the icy waters of the Bering Sea into the Nushigak and other rivers. Once caught, we quickly roll in our net to ‘pick’ the fish which are immediately bleed and placed in holds with 33° chilled sea water. Every 8-12 hours we deliver our catch to large tender boats that then whisk them away to be processed. The salmon is cleaned, flash frozen and vacuum sealed to maintain maximum flavor and freshness. As my customers can attest, the flavor and quality is unparalleled.
By buying your fish from Siskiyou Salmon, you are supporting a sustainable fishery while enjoying wild seafood of the highest quality. You are also supporting a small, family-run business that helps keep your food dollars in the local economy.
My family and I are so grateful for your support!
